The December 1 will be celebrated around the world for the World Day to Combat ' AIDS. If
in Italy people who came into contact with the HIV virus are about 120,000 (25,000 with full-blown AIDS) with 327 deaths ( Ministry of Health, 2005 ), in the rest of the world people are suffering about 33 million, with approximately 2.5 million new cases in 2007 and 2.2 million deaths-about 6,000 a day-( WHO, 2007 ).

Please note that there is currently no vaccine nor a cure. There
antiretroviral therapy allow to delay the progression of the infection and allow a better and longer life.
These drugs are very expensive, however, because it is protected by copyright by pharmaceutical companies.
In some countries (India, Africa) have been made attempts (successful) to manufacture such drugs without authorization.
The results?
1. The same drugs cost a few cents (against the official price of the product of hundreds of dollars with the "mark");
2. Pharmaceutical companies have filed lawsuits worth millions to these small firms.
And then?
Currently, most infected people (especially African) can not afford the treatment with drugs produced by Western companies, and are thus condemned to a quick death.
The only alternative is, together with pressure on governments to liberalize Copyright by the life-saving medicines, the use of condoms.
The condom is currently (along with abstinence and faithfulness to some) is the only defense that can block HIV infection.
But also that Africa has in the price equivalent to a plate of rice served cooked and seasoned.
